However, if you haven’t signed up with autopay then you need to call them to extend the contract once it expires.
Professional Contractor Network
American Home Shield works closely with local contractors allowing them to maintain their promise of nationwide coverage. The company currently has more than 15,000 contractors providing home warranty repair and replacement services to consumers. American Home Shield assigns contractors to individuals to expedite any service request, however, in some cases you can choose your own contractors.
If you want to select your own contractor, then certain requirements need to be fulfilled such as a license to operate or are qualified to provide services in the particular state, must be insured, etc. Before any repair or replacement work commences, the outside contractor must provide an estimated bid and diagnosis of the issue to American Home Shield. Upon authorization, you can proceed to pay for the work and get it reimbursed. However, if approval is not given to conduct any work by the company, American Home Shield will not be responsible for reimbursing any amount.
The company charges a service call fee of $100 payable to the technician on every visit.
American Home Shield have a really simple claims process, you can request a technician to visit by calling on their dedicated landline. Alternatively, you can log on to your online portal and submit a request for a contractor visit. The company charges a trade service call fee and assigns you a contractor who will call you to schedule an appointment. You need to pay the fee upfront before a contractor calls you to schedule an appointment.
During the appointment, the technician will diagnose and determine whether or not the issue is covered under your home warranty plan. If your current package provides coverage for the problem, it will be repaired and replaced accordingly, subject to any limitations and exclusions. American Home Shield will send you an email to get your feedback once the work is completed.
