Plans & Pricing

Freshology offers 4 basic meal plans with a vast amount of customization. There is the Balance plan, the Balance Diabetes plan, the Keto-Carb30 plan, and the Vegetarian plan.

The Balance Plan is the most popular one and it is perfect for those who wish to lose weight or maintain their current weight. The meals are all approved by a dietician and they are controlled for sodium, carbs, fat and cholesterol to ensure that they are healthy and nutritious. The idea behind the Balance Diabetes plan is very similar but an emphasis is placed on maintaining constant blood sugar levels throughout the day.

The Keto-Carb30 Plan is a classic Atkins-style carb-restricted diet. It essentially replaces carbs with fat and contains just 30 net carbs per day on average, making it Keto-friendly. It is recommended that people who follow it do not add any additional bread, sugar, or other carbohydrates. Finally, the Vegetarian Plan helps those who don’t eat meat to lose weight while receiving all the nutrients they need. For instance, it makes use of protein sources such as dairy, eggs, beans, and some soy.

When selecting a plan, customers are asked to provide various bits of information before the price is displayed. The Balance Plan offers the choice of Original and No Seafood. There are versions for women and men with 1,200 calories per day and 1,600 calories per day respectively. The plan also gives the choice of 5 days of meals per week or 7 days per week, and the choice of 2 meals per day (no breakfast) or all 3 meals per day.

The Balance Diabetes Plan is only available in one version, so the choice of men or women’s menus is removed as is the no seafood option. However, it retains the choice of 5 or 7 days per week and 2 or 3 meals per day. The Keto-Carb30 is also not available in male and female versions, but it does provide a No Seafood option. Finally, the Vegetarian Plan simply offers a choice of days per week and how many meals per day.

When it comes to price, there is a large amount of variation depending upon the chosen plan, meals per day, and days per week. Freshology does not have a clear list of prices on its website and the only way to get an accurate price is by selecting a menu. For example, with the Balance Plan, for a man on 2 meals a day, 7 days a week, it starts at $174.99 while for a woman it starts at $162.99. Opting for 5 days a week, these prices drop to $129.99 and $121.99 respectively. The price increases a bit for 3 meals per day. For 7 days a week, men and women will pay $198.99 and $179.99 respectively while for 5 days, it is $151.99 and $143.59 respectively.

Ingredients Quality

As Freshology’s name suggests, the company uses the freshest and best quality ingredients possible. All of the meals are prepared by chefs who follow the highest food safety standards and best practices. The commercial kitchens are government inspected and they uphold the most stringent sanitation procedures so customers can be sure that the meals are clean and safe to eat.

The meals themselves do not contain any preservatives and the company says that it does its best to limit artificial sweeteners, but points out that they cannot always be avoided in items such as yogurt and syrup. Whenever possible, Freshology uses organic ingredients and they do not add artificial flavor enhancers such as MSG to the food. All of this means that customers can be sure that they are receiving fresh food which is free of harmful chemicals and packed full of nutrients.

Delivery Service

Freshology presents customers with two possibilities on how to receive their food. Customers can opt for delivery, which costs $19.98 per week, or they can arrange to collect the food at a local pickup location, which is free of charge. Deliveries take place once a week while the local pickup is available on Tuesdays and Fridays. The company can deliver to anywhere in the contiguous US covered by FedEx, but they do not deliver to Hawaii, Alaska or Canada. Local pick up is available in the Washington DC Metro area (including Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland), the Baltimore area, New Jersey, and the greater Los Angeles area.

The “auto-delivery” option is turned on by default, which means that customers will continue to receive a shipment each week. However, at any point, it is possible to pause or cancel the subscription and there are no fees for doing so. Similarly, orders can be edited or customized as long as it is done before Monday when orders are sent out.

The meals are flash-frozen in the kitchen, packed on dry ice, and then sent in large Styrofoam coolers. Upon arrival, the meals simply need to be placed in the refrigerator where they will remain fresh for up to 7 days. If the food will not be consumed within that time, then it can be frozen and defrosted later. The meals require very little preparation; they just need heating in the microwave or oven for a few minutes before consuming. This means that there are no recipes or complicated instructions to follow.

Recipe Variety

Freshology is aimed at those who seek to lose weight through healthy eating. However, they do not adopt a “one size fits all” approach but give their customers a huge range of choices within each of the 4 plans. They operate a 5-week meal rotation, which means that a new set of meals becomes available every sixth week. Each week’s menu offers a wide selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner, ensuring that everyone will be able to find plenty of appealing options.

When placing an order, a set of meals will be chosen by default. However, customers are free to change their selection at no extra cost on a weekly basis. In total, there are more than 500 different menus available to choose from catering for every taste. While they have specific plans for vegetarians, diabetics, and those on a keto diet, it is also possible to accommodate dietary preferences such as no seafood and low sodium. In fact, on the website they state that they “will substitute whenever possible to satisfy your dietary needs”. Customers can view the nutritional information for each meal before ordering so that they can make a fully informed decision about what they are eating.

Organic & Sustainability Focus

Freshology does its best to use the freshest and healthiest ingredients at all times including organic ingredients whenever possible. However, those that want to eat solely organic food will have to look elsewhere as the company does not guarantee that all ingredients will be organic.

The company has worked hard to reduce its environmental impact. All of the packaging used is recyclable. The meal trays can be placed in any recycling receptacle that accepts plastic, and the Styrofoam coolers can also be recycled at a number of recycling facilities. They also have tips on their website about how to reuse the packaging and provide examples of how to make it into flower boxes, storage containers, etc.

Customer Support & Benefits

There is an excellent help section on the Freshology website with a large FAQ divided into categories such as General Questions, Carb30 Menu, Home Delivery Questions, Nutritional Questions, and more. Each category contains clear and concise answers to a wide range of questions and there is also very effective search functionality to help people quickly find the information they need.

Those who require further assistance can reach out to the customer support team via telephone between 8 AM and 5 PM (EST), Monday to Friday and from 9 AM to 12 noon (EST) on Saturdays. The team can also be reached via an online form; they are happy to help with all queries and concerns and aim to answer back promptly.

Freshology offers a number of customer benefits. Those who are unsure about using the service will be able to attend one of their local events to taste a sample of the food before placing an order. The events are held on a regular basis across the country and they are fantastic for getting acquainted with Freshology. There is also a blog on the website that contains a mixture of recipes, health and lifestyle tips, interviews with nutritionists and other health professionals, and more. It is packed with interesting articles and frequently updated with new posts.
