Simply visit their website and fill in their “30-second quiz” to discover your pet’s coverage options. You will also receive a free e-book called the ‘5 Essential Commands to Teach Your Dog’, written by Cesar Milan. At this stage of the application, you will need to provide some details to receive your quote including:
- Pet’s type (dog or cat)
- Pet’s name
- Pet’s age
- Pet’s breed
- Pet’s gender
- Zip code
- Email address
Then click on “Get a Quote” to view your personalized offers.
You will be presented with three options for your plan: Most Affordable, Most Popular, and Most Reimbursement. While you are free to select any one of these plans, there is a more flexible set of customization options available below.
If you scroll down, you will be able to choose your preferred:
- Annual limit: $5,000 – Unlimited
- Reimbursement: 70%, 80% and 90%
- Annual deductible: $500, $250, $100
Altering these options will change your monthly premium, so make sure you find the right level of coverage to suit your pet. Accident-Only coverage is also available and customizable in the same way as the fully comprehensive plan. You can then view your policy and add on any additional pets to receive a discount.
Here, you can add on preventative care for an added cost. The Gold option has a total annual benefit of $250 and costs $9.95 per month, whereas the Platinum option has $450 total annual benefit and costs $24.95 per month.
After adding on any extras, you will proceed to the payment section and begin your insurance. You can opt for either monthly or annual payments.
Premiums & Deductibles
The premiums and deductibles are flexible with Spot Pet Insurance. You can alter the level of reimbursement, annual deductible, and the maximum annual payout on the online application form. The cost of your premium will vary depending on the options, deductible, and the breed and age of your pet.
For example, a two-year-old German Shepherd with a $5k annual limit, 70% reimbursement, and a $500 deductible would cost $44.98 per month. The same dog would cost $154.94 per month if you opted for unlimited annual payouts, 90% reimbursement, and a $100 deductible.
There are no limits to the amounts of claims you can make with Spot Pet Insurance.
Plan Options & Coverage
There are two plans available, both of which can be personalized to meet your preference. These are the Accident-Only and fully comprehensive Accident and Illness coverage.
The Accident Only policy does not include any expenses related to illness. Instead, it simply covers unexpected treatments your pet may need as a result of an accident including:
- Alternative therapy
- Swallowed objects
- Bite wounds
- Broken bones
- Toxic ingestions
- Prescription medicine and supplements
- Surgery and hospitalization
- Stem cell therapy
The more comprehensive Accident and Illness option covers all of the above plus any costs related to the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, respiratory infections.
There is no cover for pre-existing medical conditions. However, they do not consider a condition to be ‘pre-existing’ if your pet has been cured and free of symptoms for at least 180 days, except for knee and ligament conditions.
Spot Pet Insurance does not have an upper age restriction for senior pets, so you can enroll your older animals without worrying if they will be rejected. There is also a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not happy with the level of service that is provided or if you aren’t satisfied with the level of coverage that your pet receives.
Some notable exclusions to their policies include grooming, aesthetic dental procedures, breeding costs, cosmetic procedures, and preventative care. Although, you can add preventative care as an added extra if you wish.
You must submit a claim with Spot Pet Insurance within 270 days from the initial date of treatment. You can claim for any expense that occurred in the USA from any vet as there are no vet networks that you must comply with.
The process of creating a claim is simple. You must be in possession of the itemized bill and any receipts for the treatment and expenses incurred. These documents must be forwarded to Spot Pet Insurance via mail, email or the online claim form.
